Bun Khao Salak in Luang Prabang
Bun Khao Salak is a Buddhist festival, held on the tenth full moon of the lunar calendar in Luang Prabang. It is considered as the celebration of the dead. On that day, people make offerings to the monks at the local Wat by lots of special dishes, cakes and sticky rice. They give the offerings accompany with a paper talking about deceased ancestors. The paper will be read public by the monks, prayed and respected by others. People believe that if the spirit does not receive offerings, then it will bring bad luck to the living.
During Bun Khao Salak days, in the Mekong River, there are some boat racing festival but the biggest one is organized in Kham Muan Province. People gather, encourage then having some fun activities to celebrate and congratulate the winners.
