New flight: Kuala Lumpur - Luang Prabang
 
AirAsia will launch a new route connecting Kuala Lumpur to Luang Prabang in Laos on November 21, making it the “first and only airline” to connect the two cities with a direct service, according to them.
The four weekly flights to the Laotian UNESCO Heritage will be the airline group’s 70th intra-Asean route connecting all 10 Asean countries.
The new service will also be AirAsia’s fourth route into Laos after Kuala Lumpur–Vientiane, Bangkok–Vientiane, and Bangkok-Luang Prabang. 


What to do in October?
 
October, is not only the start of high season in Laos, but also one of the busiest months which named "Month of Festival".
Coming to Laos this Oct, tourists have many chance to join the colorful festivals throughout Laos, to take part in the traditional activities with locals, share the memories and enjoy the beauty of authentic Laos culture:

1. Naga Rocket Festival
Date: 16th October 2016
Venue: Bolikhamxay Province

The fireballs coming out from the water's surface can be seen once a year on the last night of the Lao Buddhist Lent. The Naga Rockets can be spotted where the Nam Ngum and the Mekong river meet in Thaprabath District, Bolikhamxay Province, as well as in Pak Ngum District, 60 kilometers east of Vientiane.

2. Boun Ok Phansa and Boat Racing Festival
Date: 16th October 2016 (Boun Ok Phansa & Lhai Heua Fai, Festival of the Boats of Light)
Date: 17th October 2016 (Boat Racing Festival)
Venue: Vientiane Capital and Nationwide

Boun Ok Phansa is the last day of the Buddhist lent. It occurs on the 15th day of the 11th month of the lunar calendar. In the morning, donation and offering are made at temples around the country. In the evening, candlelight processions are held around the temples while hundreds of colourful floats decorated with flowers, incense and candles are set adrift down the rivers giving thanks to the river spirit (lai huea fai and loi ka thong). There are said to pay respect to the Buddha and to thank the mother of river for providing water for our lives as well as for blessing and to float bad luck of the past year away enabling the good luck to flow in. this colourful ritual has been carried on by Lao people for thousands of year. 

3. Luang Prabang Half Marathon
Date: 23 October 2016 
Venue: Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang Half Marathon or also known as the "La Procession" which is held at Luang Prabang, Laos. Experience the all-sweat out ra during the month of October. The rate comprises with 21 kilometers, 14 kilometers and 7 kilometers distances that start from the National Museum. The organization raises the event to give significance to the charities they chosen. The concerns of the runners and all other professional racers are to the people who need their help.

4. Laos Handicaft Festival
Date: 26th October - 1st November  2016
Venue: Lao-ITECC, Vientiane Capital

Handicraft Festival has been internationally recognized where the costumers and traders came from different countries around Asia and some other continents. The festival occurs during the month of November at Lao ITECC. Beyond 200 professional artists from all over the world participates on this event. The fest showcases various products including jewelries, textiles, handicrafts, souvenirs, and even agricultural and food products which includes oil, tea and coffee. The festival gives courage and appreciates the culture, traditional designs, and skills of every individual.
Top 5 beautiful waterfalls in Vientiane 

At present, Vientiane residents have a choice of waterfalls to visit, where a happy Saturday or Sunday can be spent enjoying a lazy picnic and playing in the refreshing water. Most of the waterfalls are surrounded by thick vegetation and visitors can delight in the clean air and the sound of birdsong against the backdrop of cascading water.
Most waterfalls are open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00pm and there is a small charge for each visitor and for vehicles. It's also advisable to bring some money to rent a hut and some mats.
We have listed below some of the most attractive and accessible waterfalls in Vientiane, and you should definitely try to get to at least one of them:

Upcoming event: That Luang Festival
 
That Luang, The Grand Stupa, in Vientiane Capital is sanctuary to the Lord’s hair and bosom bone. It was built over an ancient stupa  in the 16th century, by King Setthathirath when he moved the capital of the Lane Xang Kingdom from Luang Prabang to Vientiane. It has since become the symbol of Laos and is profoundly revered by all Lao People.

The That Luang religious festival lasts three days. This year, the festival and Trade Fair will be held from 07 - 14th November 2016. It starts with the wax castle procession at Wat Si Meuang  and end with a procession around the Stupa. Thousands of monks and ten of thousands of pilgrims come from all over the country and even from Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam to attend the festival. [Read more...]
