Plan for direct flight from India to Laos

India and Laos will soon launch direct flights as part of initiatives to increase cultural exchanges and bilateral trade between the two countries.
Lao News Agency quoted India’s ambassador to the Lao PDR, Ravi Shankar Aisola, saying direct flights between the two countries was in the final stages of approval and very soon there would be flights between India and Laos without the need to stop in a third country.
Routes and other details are being worked out in a bilateral aviation agreement, he said.
Lao PDR’s ambassador to India, Southan Sakonhninhom, said Indian investors would be encouraged to look at projects in the country, while Indian companies could use Laos as a gateway to gain access to ASEAN markets.
The main investment would be in the areas of power, tourism and agriculture.
According to Laos’ Tourism Development Department latest official data, 4,547 Indian tourists traveled to Laos in 2014, decreasing of 0.09% from 4,551 in 2013.
Highlight: Doi Ka Noi Restaurant Vientiane

If you're looking for a local restaurant serving real authentic food, Doi Ka Noi, probably gives you the right answer for the unique taste of Lao cuisine.
In just a couple of years Doi Ka Noi has already become well-known with local and foreign customers. The restaurant serves five different types of Lao food every day for breakfast and lunch and most of the food consists of seasonal dishes.

Doi Ka Noi has more than 100 Lao dishes but only aims for at least five per day because of the size of kitchen and Ms Ponpailin - the owner is the restaurant's only cook.
She goes to the market on her own to selects the best ingredients including fresh vegetables, fish and meat, and other ingredients. Most vegetables are bought at the organic market near That Luang esplanade in Xaysettha district, Vientiane.

“I select the best ingredients to make sure it is good for us and our customers. Most importantly, I don't use monosodium glutamate (MSG) or seasoning powder when cooking because it's not good for our health,” she added.
As this small restaurant prepares to attend an international food event in Italy this September it still waits on many diners in Vientiane. Its overseas appearance will be the first ever by a Lao representative at the prestigious event.

One of the reasons why this restaurant is showcasing Lao food at Terra Madre Salone del Gusto in Turin, Italy from September 22nd to 26th is because it is the first and the only Lao member of Slow Food, an inspirational global organisation that perfectly reflects the food philosophy of Doi Ka Noi.
The restaurant is located in front of Naxay market at Sisangvone Road, Naxay village in Xaysettha district, Vientiane.

Feature of the month: Boun Khao Phansa

Boun Khao Phansaa, which marks the beginning of “Buddhist Lent”, is celebrated yearly on July. A legend said that, there was once a group of six monks walking during the rainy season. They were careless about where they put their feet, stepping on frogs and crushing new rice plants. This angered the farmers who complained to the Buddha. The Buddha made the rule for the Sangha, the community of monks, to observe Khao Phansaa, which means “entering the rainy season.” The traditionally lay people are not allowed to get married until the end of the Buddist Lent which is less making parties during three months Khao Phansa.
