New upgrading road in Vang Vieng

A newly paved road connecting the town of Vangvieng to Poukham cave has upgraded and attracted more tourists to the area at present. The asphalt road that was built last year and opened in April was funded by the tourism sector, which paved over 10km of road with the aim of promoting tourism on the other side of the Xong River. The road allows tourists to ride their bicycles and motorbikes, which offer visitors chances to observer the lifestyle of the locals living along the road where they grow their crops in fields and sell local fruit and vegetables surrounded by the beautiful scenery. Another upgrading plan is to build cable cars from the Phangeun cliff to Poukham cave and  to pave the 8km of road from Road 13 North to the Keang-yui waterfall, which is predicted as a kick to attract more tourists to the area.

Upcoming event: Boun Haw Khao Padapdin

Boun Haw Khao Padapdin is celebrated to remember, not only to one’s own ancestors, but also to the dead with no relatives. In Lao Calendar, it is held on the 15th day of the waning moon in the 9th month. People usually cook khao tom (steamed sticky rice cake, wrapped in banana leaf) and before leaving for morning alms giving, they put khao tom and other food: candy, cake... in the corners outside the house so that the spirits can come and get them. People also go to temple to attend Five Precepts, listen to the reading of the Buddhist writings in Pali or candlelit procession around the temple.
